In the 1960 Summer Games in Rome, U.S. sprinter Wilma Rudolph (above) won three gold medals, Cassius Clay (later known as Muhammad Ali) won the light-heavyweight boxing gold medal, and Rafer Johnson won the decathlon. Ethiopia's Abebe Bikila won the marathon running barefooted. Boris Shakhlim of the USSR won four gold medals, two silvers, and a bronze in gymnastics. Hungary's Aladar Gerevich, at age 50, won a record sixth sabre-fencing gold medal.
