At the 1994 Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway, athletes from 66 countries mourned the fighting in Sarajevo, Bosnia, the site of the 1984 Winter Games. Athletes including Norway's celebrated speed skater, Johann Olav Koss, donated medal bonus money to aid Sarajevo, and the International Olympic Committee agreed to match all athlete donations. Jayne Torvil and Christopher Dean, gold medal winners in Sarajevo, dedicated their exhibition ice dancing performance to the battered city. Bonnie Blair (above) won her fourth and fifth gold medals in speed skating.
