African American inventors

The process of getting respect and opportunity for African Americans in the 1800’s and early 1900’s must have been a very difficult task. After reading about the accomplishments of outstanding African American inventors such as George Washington Carver, our middle school bears his name, I can’t imagine what he must have went though to still accomplish what he did. Without the accomplishments of this great American Chemurgist, many of the products we depend on daily would not exist. If I were in Dr. Washington’s shoes, I would have to probably work for very low pay, work many more hours that my counterparts, and receive little to no credit for the work I performed. Being in this position, it would be very difficult to keep a positive attitude and get up day after day to go and give 100% to my job. In my opinion, this makes these great African American inventors even greater than others of their time. Not only were they able to overcome the common problems most African Americans had of that time, they also have to complete against the very individuals that were responsible for their condition. I am very glad to have learned about Mr. Carver as it makes me even more impresses with his accomplishments.
