For every 100 books ClassroomsCare participants
read, Scholastic Book Clubs will donate an equal number of new books to children in need for a total of
up to 1 million books. The distribution of these donated books to under-resourced schools and communities
throughout the United States is made possible by the support of these organizations.

First Book
First Book is a company that gives brand new books to children in need. We have given millions of
books to children all over America, and we do a lot of hard work in the places that were hurt by Hurricanes
Katrina and Rita in 2005. To find the children who need these books, First Book works with after-school
programs and homeless shelters and we do special projects with book publishers, TV channels, cereal companies
and others to pay for the books that we give away. In fact, you can help us with this important job by
reading for ClassroomsCare. When you do, Scholastic will donate books to First Book that we can then give
to children who need them. You can go online with your teachers or parents to www.firstbook.org
to learn more about us.

Reach out and Read
Reach Out and Read (ROR) makes it possible for doctors and nurses across the country to give books
to children, ages 6 months to five years of age, at well-child visits. Doctors also encourage parents
to read aloud to their children so that children enter school ready to learn to read and succeed in school.
Reach Out and Read wants every child to grow up with books and a love of reading. To learn more about
ROR, please visit our website at: www.reachoutandread.org
ClassroomsCare makes sure Reach Out and Read has books available for doctors to give out when children
come into their clinics.
Reach Out and Read thanks ClassroomsCare and every teacher and student for making sure that all children
have books!

Save the Children
Save the Children is the leading independent organization creating lasting change for children in need
in the United States and around the world. In 2007 Save the Children will be celebrating 75 years of helping
children survive and thrive by improving their health, education and economic opportunities and, in times
of acute crisis, mobilizing rapid life-saving assistance to help children recover from the effects of
war, conflict and natural disasters.
Save the Children began its work in Appalachia in Kentucky in 1932, responding to the needs of families
during the Great Depression. Today, U.S. Programs concentrates on literacy and nutrition programs benefiting
over 20,000 children in areas of persistent rural poverty in 12 states.
Save the Children works with underserved rural schools to help children become stronger readers. It’s
hard to imagine, but more than half of our nation’s low-income families have no books for children
in their homes. Scholastic Book Clubs ClassroomsCare program is vital to our after-school and summer literacy
programs, stocking school libraries and generously providing children with thousands of new books each
year.

potential. Hello Friend gives teachers and kids great ways to become the best learners they can be. Thanks
to ClassroomsCare, Hello Friend has brought the joy of reading to thousands of classroom libraries for

of Scholastic Book Clubs, numerous tireless volunteers in Vermont, and a number of other sponsors, over
a three quarters of a million free books have gone to under-resourced classrooms where students seldom
get a chance to read a new book. For more information, visit www.hellofriend.org.
