Winter's Coming | Dilophsaurus Diary
by: Erin K., Grade: 6+

The cold season is bearing down on my territory. The days have been getting shorter, colder, every second it feels like. Often, I will wake in the middle of the night and the chilly wind whips at my face, keeping me awake despite my futile attempts to sink back into the world of dreams. Because of this, I have had to gather bark and leaves and scrape it over the top of my burrow-like nest, so that the ruthless cold winds can't bother my sleep any longer. The herds are all nervous, therefore my hunts are harder. I must work tirelessly to stalk them, hours on end, until I finally get an opening to pounce on one. The one good thing about this season is what lays after it; spring, and with spring comes mating season for my kind. I am delighted and more than willing to wait for the wonderful, bright season..I was too young to participate in the season's activities last year, but perhaps I will be able to court a partner this year, now that I'm old enough. Sincerely, the Dilophsaurus you will never meet.
