One of my favorite
parts of the story is the idea that the dinosaurs still exist somewhere
under Central Park. I don't know if there would still be an entire dinosaur
head buried under the ground, but I liked the idea of this dinosaur looking
up from the past at a boy drawing in the park. If you look carefully,
the picture of the boy drawing the bird echoes an earlier drawing in the
book where Waterhouse is young and he is also drawing a bird. This was
my way of showing that Waterhouse's work lives on and reminds us that
what we do today when we imagine something from the past is exactly what
Waterhouse did all those years ago. |
