These playful creatures live in large groups called “colonies.” The head of each colony is an adult male called a “bull.” Bulls can grow up to be seven feet in length and up to 800 pounds.

Each cow (female sea lion) can have one pup, which she nurtures for up to three years. The bond between mother and child is so strong that they can recognize one another’s bark distinctly from all the other barks in the colony.
