Blue-footed Boobie
Spaniards called these birds “bobos” or clowns and that’s how they got their name. They have bright blue feet and eyes that sometimes seem cross-eyed. The male blue-footed boobie uses his bright blue feet in his mating dance. Blue-footed boobies are very impressive fishermen. The boobie spots a fish from the air and dives at great speed, folding its wings in at the last moment as it hits the water. Blue-footed boobies weigh three to four pounds and can live to be more than 17 years old. (Photo Credit: © Amanda Paulson)
