Judy Evans has lived in New Zealand since she was 12 years old.

Today, Judy teaches at a school in Masterton, an inland area on the south eastern side of New Zealand's North Island. The school, Totara Drive, has approximately 300 students ranging in age from 5 to 11 years, and Judy has taught there since 1993. She has been married for over 33 years to Graeme, a sheep and stud-cattle farmer and has three, now adult, children.

I love my teaching role and have a special love of science and environmental studies. I really enjoy helping kids get to know their world and develop a sense of respect and responsibility for their role as guardians for future generations," Judy says. She hopes that she can pass on the traditional views of the Maori, the native peoples of New Zealand, to you, Scholastic readers.
