My Life in Dog Years by Gary Paulsen

Review by: Matthew A.
New Jersey, Grade 7

When Gary was only seven he went to go get his first Dog. He was in the Phillippine Islands because he dad was a moving war soldier. When he entered the place he had a box of dogs to choose from. He saw Snowball and immediately wanted her. At first he just thought about saving her then he loved her and would not let her go. He had watched a dog out of that box be strangled to be eaten. His mom saw Gary really wanted that dog so she started a bidding war for it. She won and the Dog was Gary's. She had a white ball on her fur so He called her Snowball. Snowball was a black Lab.

I loved the book My Life In Dog Years for many various reasons. Even though I don't have a dog just listening to his past dogs made me happy, but want a dog even more. Gary used great vivid details and it was in a perfect time order. The book was easy to understand aqnd not freakishly long. I also felt like I went on a journey with Gary's pat self. Like when Gary purchased Snowball and was talking about the car ride I felt like I was there. I felt like I was sitting in the back of the car with Gary, Snowball, and the body guard.
