  Captains Courageous by Rudyard Kipling

Review by: Sean D.
Florida, Grade 8

This book is about a rich boy who is the son of a railroad owner. They are very rich and they live in California. His father give Harvey their son everything that he wants. Since Harvey gets everything that he wants, he is spoiled and unappreciative. Harvey falls over a ship and is picked up by Disko Troop who owns a schooner. Disko takes him on the ship. Harvey tries to get him to take him back to California but Disko refuses. Harvey is given a job on the ship and he learns to appreciate his life. He is treated very hard on the ship. He finally is reunited with his family but Harvey is now changed.
I think my favorite part of this school is when Harvey falls into the water and is picked up. I liked that by Harvey changing where he is for a few months makes him appreciate his life. I think that the experience that he had on that ship saved his life.

I think this story makes you remember about how we need to appreciate what we are given. We need to remember that we need to always look at the positives of our lives. I would recommend this book to my friends. I did not like the setting too much. I would have preferred reading about something that happens in this century.
