Life Is Not a Fairy Tale by Fantasia Barrino

Review by: Chanell J.
Virginia, Grade 9

Fantasia Barrino did a good job on this book. She grew up in High Point, North Carolina and was in church all the time. She has been singing all of her life. She grew up in the church until she was a teenager and thought she was grown. She wanted to be like everyone at school. She met this boy named B and started skipping school, having sex, and losing respect from her family and herself. She dropped out of school in the 9th grade and became pregnant. She didn't have money but she made a way to provide for her daughter. Fantasia has made many mistakes and she has learned from them. The reason why she wrote this book is to persuade children to not make the same mistakes she has made in her life.

I reallly liked this book and connected with it. I have felt the same way Fantasia did (over B)over a boy. I didn't care like she did. I didn't care about anything or what anyone said or thought about me. Fantasia kept it real and didn't try and sugar coat anything. That is why I had a good connection to the book.
