Eyes of the Emperor by Graham Salisbury

Review by: Alex D.
Illinois, Grade 6

An interesting thing about the book is the main character's display of courage.

I'm reviewing Eyes of the Emperor by Graham Salisbury. It is a historical fiction book which is based on factual events during World War II. The book starts out when Japan attacks Pearl Harbor. Eddy has already signed up for the US Army. Interestingly, he is an American of Japanese descent, but he is a very patriotic American. He gets called upon to do a very humbling assignment on Cat Island, which tests his degree of dedication to the Army. A strength of the book is its description of the difficulty of Army assignments. I liked the book so well that I cannot think of a weakness. Specifically, I loved the courage displayed by Eddy while he was stationed on Cat Island.
