Ramona and Her Father by Beverly Cleary

Review by: Nathan S.
Connecticut, Grade 2

“Why can’t my father lose the habit of smoking?”asks Ramona Quimby.
“If daddy smokes to much, his lungs will turn black ” says Ramona’s older sister Beatrice(also known as Beezus because that is what Ramona called her older sister when she was very young). So Ramona wanted to stop air pollution, and her father’s lungs from turning black. Ramona and Beatrice set up signs in the most vivid places in the house(where her father smokes.) For example one of the signs look like this: it was a cigarette that had a big X over it and it said “stop air pollution” although it was much bigger because it was about three feet long. One day when Ramona got home from school, her dad announced that he got fired from his job!
Beatrice and Ramona both asked, “why?” There father explained that a bigger company bought the company that he worked for, so the bigger company fired most of the workers from the smaller company and he was one of the people that got fired from the smaller company. Read the book to find out what happens next!

I recommend reading this book closely because it can make valuable lessons for your life, and I think that valuable lesson is that you shouldn’t always go with the flow. I think you should read this book if you like funny chapter books.
