Close to Famous by Joan Bauer

Review by: Anibeth B.
Illinois, Grade 7

Close to Famous is a book that guides people that anything is possible if you follow your dreams. Foster was escaping from her mom’s ex-boyfriend until they came to a family to ask them for a place to live . Foster loves to cook and she expresses herself by cooking and baking,so she decided to go out and work in a restaurant where a man called Angry Wayne gives her permission to sell cupcakes to the customers .but Foster had a secret going into 7th grade… Not being able to read and write. Foster had some difficulties getting into her life she didn't know how to write or read. Foster’s moms ex-boyfriend hit moms eye because she was going to run away from home, Foster finds a way to get out of those bad situations she starts to bake and follow her dreams.

I loved this book because it shows that ANYTHING is possible. This books has lots of quotes example in the book it says... “I'll tell you something about tough times. They just about kill you, but if you decide to keep working at them, you'll find your way through.”

¯ Joan Bauer, Close to Famous some other stuff i liked about the book is because foster meets many people in her life and together they learn valuable lessons. And some parts in the books where about humor, drama etc.

This book is a good book for 6th graders and up. In this book it shows some humor, and that any problem you have you can still follow your dreams, never give up on yourself.
