Harris and Me: A Summer Remembered by Gary Paulsen

Review by: Will S.
Ohio, Grade 7

Garry Paulsen is one of my favorite authors now because I read the book Harris and Me, and I would recommend this book for other kids in the 7th grade to read this. But if you are a little younger I wouldnít read it. The setting of the book is in the 1940ís, and it takes place on a farm.

The plot is a kid has a mom and dad and he gets taken to a farm for the summer. On the farm there is a cat thatís name is Buzzer. There is also a chicken thatís name is Ernie. Another character is Knute. He is different because he doesnít speak a lot. The next character is Glennis. She is the sister of another character. That character is Harris. He is crazy but he can be normal at some times in the book. Louie is another weird character in the book. For one thing he is dirty all the time. Me is another main character. He is the one that is going to the farm for summer but you never know his name throughout the book. So in the book all the adults go away many times and that give Harris and Me the chance to do bad things. One thing they did was make a bike go 20 times the normal speed and shock things with an electric fence. The boys work on the farm and feed and milk animals. Then the end of summer came and Me felt like a part of the family and he didnít want him to leave.
