Harris and Me: A Summer Remembered by Gary Paulsen

Review by: Kaleb K.
Ohio, Grade 7

I read the book Harris and Me by Gary Paulsen
The setting of the story is on a farm in the 1940’s, in the summer, and it is in the country which is in the middle of nowhere.
There are two main characters, Harris and “Me”. Harris is ten years old with blond-hair, bleached white hair, white teeth, his face is perpetually sunburned with peeling nose, he has freckles, and he always wears the same bibs every single day. Harris’s last name is Larson. “Me” is eleven years old. He has been living with several uncles, his grandmother, and with an Old Norwegian bachelor farmer.

This book is about two kids that are cousins. “Me’s” parents are alcoholics, so the deputy takes “Me” to Larson’s house. “Me” lives in the city and the Larson’s live in the country which is in the middle of nowhere. Harris always does dangerous stuff and gets in trouble a lot. Glennis, his sister, always smacks Harris when he cusses. The boys get in trouble every day. I will recommend that other will like this book in 7th grade and up because it has a lot of cuss words in it. I like this book because it is really funny and it is really adventurous what Harris does. You will have to read it to find out what happens in the story. You will like this book if you want to read it. I will give this book 10 out of 10.
