The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke

Review by: Julie L.
Louisiana, Grade 10

The children were all doing fine with each other until they saw a man start to follow them. The two boys thought maybe their aunt was trying to find them. Well, they were right; their aunt had gotten a detective to search for them. After a few times of bumping into each other, the children and the detective, Victor Getz, became friends. For a while, they kept the boys’ aunt away by things that the children had said to her. They told her things like, “Mr. Getz now believes that the boys are no longer here, I mean, in Venice.” This makes her a little upset, but leaves it alone for a while. The time between her not knowing anything and the children being found, a man wants something really special to him and needs someone like The Thief Lord to get it for him.

This story ended with most wants satisfied. I liked this book because it had secrets that only people that read the story will know. The end was really good and ended just like I wanted it to. In this story, The Thief Lord made decisions that only he could fix. The decisions he makes are the themes in this adventure.
