Touching the Void: The True Story of One Man's Miraculous Survival by Joe Simpson

Review by: Jake A.
Other, Grade 10

The one thing I liked about the book was Joes will to survive . When he fell and smashed his knee cap. They then started to climb down with Joes leg but somewhere along the ling Joe ended up falling. Simon then had to cut the rope that kept them together. Joe fell and survived. Joe then looked around and tried to climb up and out but he couldn't. he then saw a light and started to head for it. He didn't know what was there but he wanted to get out. This part of the story inspired me because of Joe's will to survive, when he fell down he got up, he didn't lay down and die. He showed determination and it was what kept him going.

I didn't like the book at all, every time I picked it up and read it, I just put it down because I did not understand what Joe was talking about. because of the mountaineer equipment names, as well as climbing terms. I also didn't like the book as I could not put myself in that position, my imagination just stayed locked away and I couldn't picture it like other books I have read and enjoyed.
