  Old Yeller by Fred Gipson

Review by: Alannah B.
Louisiana, Grade 6

Imagine your dad is leaving to go to Kansas and you have the responsibility to help your mother deal with your little brother. So Travis becomes the ''man'' of the house while his dad is gone.In Old Yeller Travis has to get food, by hunting, fishing. He also has to keep little Arliss under-control. One day they woke up and there was a dog that has eaten all of the meat. Travis didn't want to keep the dog, but little Arilss did and his mom agreed with little Arilss, so now they have a dog. One day Lil Arilss made a huge mistake if it wasn't for the dog, Old Yeller.''He wasn't the prettiest dog. He was big a big, ugly slicked haired yeller dog. One ear had been chewed clear off and his tail had been bobbed so close to his rump that there was hardly left to wag.''Travis didn't care about that since Old Yeller saved little Arilss life, Travis thought he could stay around.

In my opinion Old Yeller is an amazing book to read because it gives you a life lesson about judging things by there cover.Travis had to relies that just because Old Yeller looked bad doesn't mean he was a bad dog. I recommend Old Yeller by:Fred Gibson to anybody who loves books about the love of dogs.
