  11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass

Review by: Renée D.
British Columbia, Grade 7

“Mom nods. ‘I hope you’ll still try to enjoy your birthday,’ she says, bending down to unroll the red paper. ‘After all, you only turn eleven once.’” But that was not the case for eleven year old Amanda Ellerby. In this book she has had many eleventh birthdays. Strangely enough, this also happened to Amanda’s best friend for the last ten years, Leo. Now they have to figure a way out.

Imagine living the same day over and over again. Would you wonder why? Why me? Am I under a spell? And will my life ever return to normal again? Or will this day just keep on repeating? This is the first birthday Amanda and Leo didn’t spend together because the year before they had a big fight.

I loved the book 11 Birthdays. It has some suspense and Wendy Mass uses a lot of descriptive adjectives so you can visualize everything. I recommend this book to people who like a fast, suspenseful read. You will enjoy the humour that comes along with the adventure.
