  The Heir by Kiera Cass

Review by: Jemma S.
Idaho, Grade 7

One of reasons I enjoyed The Heir is because, not only to you get to be introduced to new spectacular characters, but the book still includes the lovable characters from the previous novels.

I read the novel titled The Heir, which was fourth book out of Kiera Cassís five book Selection series. It tells how the country of Ilea has demolished the caste system over Princess Eadlynís lifetime. Allowing the people of country to choose their careers freely, not based on their familyís caste. In the past three books, citizens where limited in career options due to the caste system. Eadlynís mother (America) was born a five out of the eight caste system, she could only chose a career in music or art. Officially the castes were eliminated, but some still believed the label of them remained. This caused many issues, that often made it to the front page of the newspapers. Because of this, the king of Ilea, Ellynís Father (Maxon) decides the country needs a distraction.
Princess Eadlyn grew up hearing the magical tale of how her parents met through the Selection; a process where 35 suitors are selected to earn the chance for the hand of the heir. Eadlyn (the future queen of Ilea) had never considered this process for herself or even considered the possibility of marriage, thinking she would rule independently. But with the need of a distraction, Princess Eadlyn has found herself roped into a Selection of her own.
One of reasons I enjoyed The Heir is because, not only to you get to be introduced to new spectacular characters, but the book still includes the lovable characters from the previous novels.
Though I loved this book, I personally preferred the first three book in the series. Mostly because those books included more action throughout their chapters. Whereas this book has minimal action, until the novelís later chapters. I still really enjoyed reading The Heir.
