I Will Always Write Back by Martin Ganda, Caitlin Alifirenka

Review by: Libby M.
Illinois, Grade 7

In the book, I Will Always Write Back there are two totally different characters. Caitlin Alifrenka and Martin Ganda. Caitlin went to school one day and they talked about getting to have a pen pal from a different country. Caitlin chose Zimbabwe, Africa and got put with Martin. But it was not an ordinary pen pal relationship. Martin was having many problems going on in his life, for example he did not have enough money to buy food, water, or pay for his house. He couldn’t even pay for his school. Caitlin and her mom sent him some money to be able to support him and his family for school and a lot of other things. It meant so much to him to have a family that cares about him. They took care of him for a while and then he was able to go to school. He got the top grades in the whole class so he got a scholarship. The scholarship paid for a year of school in America.

I really liked the book. I loved the ending and I think it was a good way to end the book. I also like the general storyline. It is a true story and I think that it really made me think about how lucky I really am. The story taught me not to be greedy.
