The First Part Last by Angelina Johnson

Review by: Clara E.
Ohio, Grade 10

It is a young adult fiction novel about the struggles of teen pregnancy. Bobby is sixteen when his girlfriend Nia gets pregnant causing tragic events to occur. Johnson hops back and forth between the past and present. Furthermore, the reader goes through Bobbyís experiences raising his daughter, Feather, without Nia. One will have to keep the pages turning to find out why Bobby is going through this new chapter in his life without the mother of his child.

In my opinion, the book provided a good lesson on how impactful decisions are, but I didnít like the book that much. Since it was so short, I felt I couldnít get attached to the characters and feel a lot of empathy for them. I felt the authorís tone did not get me to feel intensely for Bobby and Nia.
