  The Fearless Travelers Guide to Wicked Places by Pete Begler

. It starts with a vivid description of a sudden tragedy which leads Nell, her brothers, and an unexpecting friend on a journey to save Nell’s mom. Inorder to do that they go on many adventures in which they risk everything, including their lives, to save their family. This book is filled with magical creatures like clowns and dreamers that Nell and her group must face together. Although a kind and brave girl, Nell was constantly mocked and laughed at back home, the text states, “....A wet piece of candy hit her in the face, the whole room burst into laughter…” and though she got knocked down she quickly gets up as she gains confidence throughout her travels to wicked places. Though, in addition to her past, Nell’s mother is one of many mom’s who were taken by the dark daughter to awaken the plague dreamer who, once awake, will knock out all of humanity. Nell manages to save her mother from the dark daughters but is completely horrified when she realizes that her mother turned into a bird and that the dark daughters will kill to get the bird back, they’ll even kill their own kind.Throughout the story, Nell manages to gain friends and enemies who follow the dark daughters and will try to get Rose from Nell. Her family and friends always have her back as she goes to finally defeat the dark daughters.

Through the journey Nell learns to love her friends like family. The Fearless Travelers Guide to Wicked Places is a charming, page turning story that you can't put down until the exciting conclusion.
