Grade 7 Reviews Children of winterby Berlie Doherty

Other, Grade 7
This book is set in the seventeenth century and it is about the plague. Itís about a family called the Tebbutt family. One day they go on a walk to see their granny but then it starts to rain. Catherine is the oldest of three. Catherine said that there was a barn on a path so they went to the barn to keep dry and it was a very old barn it had been there since the plague. Their mum left them in the barn so she could go and find their granny. When she was away, they fall asleep and when they wake up they have become different children and they are living in the seventeenth century. Their mother leaves them in the barn to protect them from the plague and they have to look after themselves. They have to learn how build fires, get water and cook for themselves. This book takes place mostly in the past. Catherine is a sensible, motherly, kind character. Read this book to find out what happens to the kids. Did the mam and dad come back? How will they come back from the past?
In this book I particularly liked Catherine because she looked after her brother and sister when her mum wasnít there to help. In my opinion I think the kids were very brave to look after themselves for a long time. I would recommend this book to people that like history because you will learn about the plague in an interesting way. I liked every part of this book and would give it 8.5 out of 10.
