  Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut

Review by: Alex V.
California, Grade 10

‘’Slaughterhouse-Five’’ is an anti-war novel by kurt vonnegut. The main character of the novel is billy pilgrim, an American soldier chaplains assistant. And he experiences and journeys through time of billy pilgrim, from his time as an American soldier and chaplains assistant, to postwar and early years. Billy pilgrim was held as a prisoner of war in Dresden, surviving the firebombing, experiences which had a lasting effect on his post-war life. His time travel occurs at desperate times in his life; he re-lives events past and future and becomes fatalistic. Because he has seen when, how and why he will die.

But what i think about the book so far is that how billy was in so much drama. And how he had flashbacks about the war in the past. He also lives a life full of death. He is oddly suited, therefore, to the Tralfamadorian philosophy of facing death. ‘’Billy pilgrim has come unstuck on time’’. This allows him to survive until the end of the war in may 1945. Then he is transported from germany to the united states, receiving an honorable discharge from service in july 1945.
