Review by: Lizbeth G.
California, Grade 10

The book “Slaughterhouse-Five” was written by Kurt Vonnegut in 1968. This book is a science fiction based anti-war novel. The setting is placed during World War ll and focuses on the bombing of Dresden. The book is told through the character Billy Pilgrim which the main character.

Billy Pilgrim’s story starts from his time as an American soldier and chaplain's assistant, to postwar and early years. The story is told in a nonlinear order, and events become clear through flashbacks (or time travel experiences) from the narrator. He describes the stories of Billy Pilgrim, who believes he was held captive by aliens and has experienced time travel. This book for has the seriousness of war and what soldiers experience and how it affects their mental health. The author Kurt Vonnegut made has done an amazing job with his book “Slaughterhouse-Five”. It contains fictional topics with a combination of real life experiences which I find as a reader thing the book is intriguing from start to finish.
