Review by: Matthew B.
Ohio, Grade 7

An Ocean Apart, A World Away is an exicted story about a young chinese women who has a dream to become a doctor. She grew up in a small town in China and has no idea about the world outside of her small town. When Yanyan visits Shanghai for the first time in her life she relizes she wants to experiance the world. She then comes up with an idea to go to colllege in America! It takes a long time to convince her parents to let her go, but she finally gets accepted to Cornell University. When Yanyan ends up in a small, croweded town in New York, she has to support herself. For the first time in her life she has to cook, clean, and find her way around a city where she can hardly speak their language. Will she be able to survive in this city? Read it and find out.

I liked that this book told the story of a girl trying to survive in America. I also learned alot about Chinese culture and how hard it is to live alone.
