Artemis Fowl #5: The Lost Colony by Eoin Colfer

Review by: Seth O.
Oregon, Grade 7

Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony by Eoin Colfer is an adventure “fairy” tale. I wouldn’t recommend this book to people who don’t like magical elaborate stories. This story begins in Madrid, Spain after Artemis calculates the materialization of a demon from a different area in space and time. Artemis then “witnesses” the event along with hundreds of civilians. A 12-year old girl, Minerva, calculates the next materialization, along with Artemis. Their encounter triggers an attraction between the two.

Butler is an extremely important character in the Artemis Fowl series. Butler is the bodyguard of a 13-year old genius. His life is all about protecting his employer’s son. Butler is a courageous and loyal man (obviously if he is a bodyguard). He is a freakishly strong man. The bodyguard is huge in size and very strategic.

Holly Short, a fairy living underground with her species, is also a main character. Her looks (as the author describes) are stunning and she is “short”. She is willing to defend her honor and help people around her that are in need. She is caring, protective, and determined. Despite everything she goes through, she is alive and healthy to this day.

Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony by Eoin Colfer is truly the best novel I have ever read.
