Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo

Review by: Alyssa H.
Pennsylvania, Grade 6

ďThatís my dog, donít call the pound ďsaid Opal. Thatís the day when a friendship began between a dog and a girl. This story is about how Opal just moves to Naomi, and this town is so small that the church is an old supermarket. She has no friends, but as she starts browsing the town she gets a job, goes to a library and has some adventures along the way and on that adventure she makes some great friends. One of my favorite characters is Opal; she is very helpful. Then there is the preacher (Opalís dad), Winn Dixie (the dog), and is Gloria Dump. These characters are just like Opal, but each one has a little twist on this story.

The character I like the most is Opal because she is caring and is so nice to everyone, but at the beginning she is not making any friends and she is not having a good time like normal kids. The plot does get better. The part I enjoyed the most was when Opal had a party and all of here friends are there so everyone was having a good time. Something funny, but sad happens. I would recommend this book to dog lovers or people who are not dog lovers. This is a heartwarming story. You will love it!
