Stuck in Neutral by Terry Trueman

Review by: Luke C.
Pennsylvania, Grade 10

***** I read the book called Stuck in Neutral by Terry Trueman. It takes place in rainy Seattle. Shaun McDaniel lives right by the space needle and the dome were the Seattle Sonics play. They are not the Sonics anymore. His dad is a famous author and won the Pulitzer Prize for one of his books. Shaun has a brother named Paul and a sister named Cindy. His dads name is Sydney McDaniel but most people call him syd. Shaun is the main character and also the narrorator.
***** If you like touching stories and surprises of what is coming next this is the book for you. It has a calm mood but also interesting. One thing you donít know about Shaun McDaniel is that he is retarded. He cannot move any of his body parts, but he remembers everything he hears so he is kind of a genius. His dad is planning to kill him Shaun thinks it is because his dad loves him and wants to put him out of his pain. You will have to find out for yourself.
***** during this book Trueman gives visual experiences of Shaunís seizures. His dad writes books and goes on television to talk about kids like Shaun. He talks about people who killed their kids to put them out of their misery.
***** The theme is a tragedy because there is a twist at the end. This book teaches us that slow people have lives and minds too. That is the underlying theme to this novel.

*****I give this book three stars because I neither liked it or disliked it. It is a neutral book just like the title this book is Stuck in Neutral.
