Splendor: A Luxe Novel by Anna Godbersen

Review by: Corrinne P.
Pennsylvania, Grade 10

The Luxe by Anna Godbersen is considered a suspenseful romantic drama that keeps you at the edge of your seat the entire novel. Just when you think you know whatís going to happen, something else happens. This book is not predictable and is so absorbing that you wonít want to put the book down.

The book begins at Diana Hollandís older sisterís funeral. The whole first chapter elaborates you on the characters and from there you can just tell which characters you love and which characters you will hate. After the first chapter you go through all the moments that caused the death of Elizabeth Holland. The author describes how their father was killed, how her mother was forcing her to marry someone with lots of money so they can keep their wealth, and how Elizabeth doesnít want to marry Henry Schoonmaker, but Will Keller who is the familyís worker. The author doesnít just keep the story in one personís point of view. It changes from Henryís to Willís to Elizabethís to Dianaís to Elizabethís best friend Penelope.

If you like drama, suspense, and romance then this is the book for you. However, if you donít like the way people speak in the early nineteen hundreds, then Iíd stay away from this book. The one thing I didnít like about the book was the way it was written. Aside from that, it was a pretty good book.
