The Red Thin Line by James Jones

Review by: Nathan L.
Pennsylvania, Grade 10

***** My book is called Every Man Fights His Own War; the author of this book is James Jones was a novelist and an author from 1950- 1977; he was born and raised in Robinson, Illinois. And he was born on November 6, 1921 and died on May 9, 1977 at the age of 55. The main character is Private Witt the leader of the C Company and told the troops to fight their own war.

***** The setting took place during World War II during the Battle of Guadalcanal. They had to fight the Japanese.

***** The plot for this novel is the men of C Company have been brought to Guadalcanal as reinforcements in the campaign to seize the island of the Japanese. In the novel Private Witt and 2 other men are sent out to attack the Japanese but find themselves heavily outnumbered and they must retreat.

***** I think Chapter 3 was the most important chapter because when they get off the plane people are ready for battle but when the colonel told the soldiers they had to split up, they were really nervous to fight his own war. So most of the soldiers split up and fought their own war in World War II against the Japanese.

***** I would rank this book 3 out of 5 because it was kind of weird at first and it swore a lot then when we got to the middle it was pretty interesting and all that, so it was an OKAY book for maybe other kids to read but mostly students should not read this book. And people can complain that it is too long to read.
