  The Giver by Lois Lowry

Review by: Alex K.
North Carolina, Grade 7

Imagine that you have never seen color, your parents and sibling are not related to you, you are put to work at age twelve, you never feel pain, and the world you know is just one community, where everyone knows one another. There is no hate, there are no lies, and there are no problems, except for you. You are burdened with everyone's pain and sorrows. It is your job to help the community by taking their pain for them.

This is the picture that Mrs. Lowry paints so vividly throughout her book. You feel as though you are there taking the memories along with Jonas. You feel the guilt of the lies as Jonas is forced to break the rules again. You will not be able to put this book down.

I loved this book because of amazing imagery and amazing plot. The plot was very realistic and believable. I liked this book most of all because it was different. It was not something that is normally written about. The writer made up an entire new world and that is not very common. I loved this book and I am sure you will too.
