  Game by Walter Dean Myers

Review by: Sam W.
New York, Grade 7

I recently read Game by Walter Dean Myers. This book takes place in Harlem, which is in New York City. It explains how a talented high school senior, named Drew, finds out how deep his game is at basketball. But thereís a problem, two white kids show up and the coach, House, hands them the team.Drew overcomes the obstacles in his way while he narrates the story so well. He also has to keep his composure if he wants to make it big in college.

What I loved about this book is the way Drew explains Harlem and everything in it, the people, the stores, the apartments, everything is explained so well. It makes you feel like youíre there and you can see and hear everything around you.

After reading this novel, youíll find yourself looking for more Walter Dean Myers books. This book is so well written, the words just flow right off the page. The grammer and language in this book makes it feel like youíre in Harlem. For example, brother, or yo,dog, and sup.

The lesson in this story is to never give up on yourself and when the going getís rough you donít quit, you try harder. Good things will come out of it. In the story, Drew has to out work, and out play the new kids if he wants to get into a good college. But he doesnít quit and in the end...

Youíll have to read it to find out what happens at the end. Trust me youíll want to.
