  The Alchemyst by Michael Scott

Review by: Tou Fue X.

If you want to read a book about magic, potions, and creatures that you never heard of, you should read The Alchemyst, by Michael Scott. You will like this book if you like to read about adventure and mystery. I thought it was a bad book at first but then later on when I started reading farther into the book it got more fascinating. I had to keep on reading because after you read the first few chapters it will get better and better. It starts in present San Francisco with a girl named Sophie Newman and her twin brother Josh Newman where they are about to find themselves in the middle of the greatest legend of all time. Josh is a football person and likes to play video games. Sophie is a good hardworking person who has a great sense of smell because she works in the coffee/tea shop across the street where Josh works. They find out that Nick Fleming and Perry Fleming are not normal folk around here because they are alchemysts. Nicholas Flamel can do magic, and Nicholas’s wife is better than him at magic. The whole plot is about them getting and protecting the mysterious Book of Abraham the Mage which has so many untold myths and legends, and there is a prophecy about the twins about untold power that one will save and the other will destroy the world. They also meet a companion and friend of Nicholas Flamel; she is of the next generation Elder Race named Scatty for short.

The Author’s writing style is very good because he describes what happens and what the character is like, this example is from the book, “Heavy black wool overcoats. They’re even wearing black gloves and hats. And sun glasses.” Sophie caught a glimpse of pale, unhealthy-looking gray-white skin. If you think that’s a person then think again. I really enjoyed this book and recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about adventure, magic, and creatures.
