Hats & Eyeglasses: A Memoir by Martha Frankel

Review by: Maddie H.
Texas, Grade 9

In Hats and Eyeglasses Martha Frankel brings you into her family as she tells you all of her crazy adventures with poker. At a young age, her father introduced her to the game of poker. Early on, she didnít have any strong opinions about the game, but later, poker turned into her whole life. Her passion grows into an obsession and her social and mental health begins to deteriorate. She even says, ďIíve been obsessed, sure-with certain men, with knitting at one point, with my career. But addicted?Ē Frankelís obsession turns into something she canít handle. Frankel must find a way to balance doing what she loves, and maintaining positive relationships with everyone around her.

This easy read is great for anyone looking for a fun and inspiring story. Her adventures make you feel a part of the Frankel family. Some parts make you laugh and others cry, but as a whole a heartwarming story about just doing what you love.
