Big Nate: In A Class By Himself by Lincoln Pierce

Review by: Jessica H.
Utah, Grade 6

Some characters in Big Nate in a Class By Himself by Lincoln pierce are: Nate, Teddy, Francis, Gina, Jenny, Artur, Nate’s sister and dad, and all of Nate’s teachers. Teddy and Francis are Nate’s two best friends, Gina is Nate’s archenemy, Jenny is Nate’s “soon to be girlfriend” as Nate would say, and Artur is the “girl stealer” (also as Nate would say.) Nate’s sister is the figure skating lover, goody two shoes in Nate’s life, Nate’s dad is the clueless guy that has no snacks at the house and is the worst trick-or treat -treat giver in the neighborhood And Nate’s teachers are the detention slip givers, or the fun stoppers in this book.

I like the illustrations and comics Nate does. I also like this book because it is funny and tells the life of an average delinquent 6th grade student. It is interesting to learn how his life would be like and what your life would be like if you were a student there. I also like to read about his different adventures in the book and how he solves them. Another funny thing about this book is how his plans always become an epic fail.

Nate wakes up in the morning and he is scrambling and wondering weather there is a test today. When he gets to school, he is really hungry. His friend Teddy notices that Nate is hungry so he offers him a fortune cookie. Nate takes it, eats it, and reads his fortune. “You will surpass all others.” It says. Through out the rest of the book you read about how he tries to surpass all others. He tries to break world records, finish the test first, dominate the school bully, write the best poem, and get his art in the display case. You can find out if Nate surpasses all others if you read this book.
