  Breaking Through by Francisco Jimenez

Review by: Shrenik A.
Connecticut, Grade 7

One interesting thing about the book was how in the beginning the family was always moving around depending on the seasons.

Frankie is the main character in the book in Breaking Through. In this book he goes from being sent back to Mexico when he was in 8th grade to going to college 5 years later. This was a great accomplishment because English was not his first language since he was born in Mexico. This book shows that hard work pays no matter what difficulties you face. The majority of the book the setting is Santa Maria,California.

I thought the book was pretty good, as it was very interesting to see his perspective on school and how he dealt with the reality of discrimination towards Mexicans. The only things I didn't like were on it was that there wasn't really that much action and was pretty slow. Overall I would give 3.5 out of 5 stars and would recommend it to a friend because it is a pretty interesting read.
