  Breaking Through by Francisco Jimenez

Review by: Celia J.
Connecticut, Grade 7

This book is the struggle of a poor, Mexican boy and his fight to succed to and through college.

In the auto biogrophy of Breaking Through by Francisco Jimenez, was the story of his life from when he was in 8th grade all the way through 12th grade at Camino Junior High. Francisco lived with his family as an illegal immigrant from Mexico for the first few years in the book. Francisco, also known as Panchito struggles to fit in at school with his accent. after singing an Elvis Prestley song infront of his class, he begins to fit in. Panchicto had to help support his large family while managing good grades in hope to go to college and become a teacher. with extra help and alot of wisdom, Panchito succeeds in going to college.
I Personally was not interested in this book. It was a very quick read for a seventh grader. In almost every chapter I was waiting for something surprising to happen. Something that would shock me. However nothing ever did happen that was very shocking to me.
