  Breaking Through by Francisco Jiménez

Review by: Nique C.
Connecticut, Grade 7

This book is about a broken child, who finds his way in America.

I particularly had mixed emotions about the book. I felt very strongly about how touching it was. I was not, however, impressed with the description. I felt the book moved too quickly for my taste. Moreover, I also felt the book was amazing. Some parts of it were so real, and emotive.
In sum, I feel Breaking Through by Fransisco Jiménez was a good book. I would recommend it to people who want a quick read, and those who are looking for a short nonfiction read.
My favorite part in the book may seem small and insignificant. Furthermore, I like to think of this part as major… his education struggles. To ‘make up’ or as some say ‘compensate’ for his erratic education, he made efforts to teach himself. Luckily, I did not have a sincere experience to relate to one of Professor Jiménez's.
In sum, I would like to tell you the ways the book affected me as a student and person. I now know how privileged I am to not go home, to go to work everday. I also appreciate the meals I get.
Thank you for your time.
