  Breaking Through by Francisco Jimenez

Review by: Eva S.
Connecticut, Grade 7

The book told us how life was for immigrants in the early 1950's

The book explained how hard it was for imigrants to survive in California with very little money. The main charector in the book (Panchito aka Francisco) had to support his family from his last year in midle school. I personally thought the climax or main event wasn't clearly stated or there wasn't enough build up.
I did not enjoy this book at all. The main thing that bugged me about this book was that there was no voice or juice, it was just plainly stated. It seemed that one chapter Panchito was in middle school and the next chapter he was in high school. I think they should have added a little more info or detail. I personally didn't have a favorite part in the book, but the book went by very fast and it was easy to read in one day.
