Martha Graham
By: Ali Z.
Wisconsin, Grade 6

Matha is one of the founders of contempotary dance. She broke away from ballet when she wanted her own dance style. She dedicated her life to her passion of dance. She danced until she could hardly walk, but she still choreographed. She was with her dance company, Martha Graham and Company, until she was on her death bed at the age of 96. She was poor and didn't care because she was doing what she loved. Once again the public did not like her works very much, but she didn't care because contemporary dancing was what she loved to do. In her lifetime she created 181 dances for her and her company. She recived the first ever Presidential Medal of Freedom at the age of 96.
