Mary Bethune
By: Sarah V.
Kentucky, Grade 5

Mrs.Bethune stood up for black rights in the deep south by putting her faith in god. She was not intimidated by the Ku Klux Klan. She taught children to have faith and serve others cheerfully. She taught adults their rights stated in the Constituiton, Bill of Rights, and other rights as citizens of the U.S. She had a few dreams I will state: To run her own school for girls. Her school would teach African American kids in the south about Jim Crow Laws, and lynchings, how to avoid them and the rights to vote.
