Rachel Carson
By: C. G.
Indiana, Grade 8

In 1962, Rachel Carson published Silent Spring. If she had not, our springs might BE silent!

Silent Spring was a book about DDT, a pesticide used to kill harmful bugs before they kill crops. As it turns out, DDT was killing MUCH more than harmful insects. It was killing ''good'' bugs that HELP crops, and it was killing birds. Thanks to Rachel Carson, DDT was outlawed and people have a new outlook on the environment!
