Bessie Coleman was the first african american woman to obtain a pilot's liscense. She wanted to reach beyond the stereotypes and limits that had been placed on her because of her race and gender. She was a pioneer of women aviators. Her desire to see others achieve the goals they dream was carried out all the way to her death in a plane crash.
