Georgia O'Keefe

Indiana, Grade 3

ďO is for OíKeefe an artist divine her paintings are perfect and drawings are fine.Ē Yes, thatís how people remember Georgia OíKeefe. Georgia was born November 15, 1887. Georgiaís birthplace was very cold in Wisconsin and her house almost looked like a tower. When she was still very young her family moved to Williamsburg, Virginia. When Georgia was in Elementary School the children didnít have art classes so their mother gave them home school art lessons. In the 2nd summer of living in New Mexico, she would see scattered bones throughout the desert. She would crate up many and ship them to Lake George so that she could study and paint them later. She got married but her husband was not very good. She had no children. Her death was in 1986 and she was 99.
Georgia accomplished getting some of her gifted paintings in museums. She didnít care if anyone liked them she just loves to paint. Someday I want to be like her. Her mother motivated her by her exquisite art lessons. Georgia kept on learning and learning about art and then her high school teacher also motivated her in the same way. Some people calm down when they see her paintings and I hope you will too!
It was great learning about Georgia OíKeeffe. The book I read really wrapped it up. I wanted to learn about her because Iím very interested in art and drawing. I also wanted to see how Georgia started drawing and where she got her talent. Georgia OíKeefe was a wonderful artist!
