The name of the person I chose is Amelia Earhart.
She was born in Atchison, Kansas in 1898. She went to
both Columbia and Harvard Universities.
She was the first woman passenger on a transatlantic
flight in 1928. She wrote about this flight
experience in the book 20 Hrs. 40 Mins. In 1932 she
became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic
Ocean alone. She created a new record of 13hrs.
Later in the year 1932 she set a speed record by
flying nonstop from Mexico City to New York City in
14hrs. 10mins. In June of 1937 she began a flight
around the world with Fred J. Noonan, her navigator.
Their plane disappeared in July 2 while trying to make
this flight. Navy planes and ships searched for the
lost flyers, but no trace of the flyers or plane was
I chose her because she was really neat. She wanted
to fly airplanes even though a lot of woman did not
fly airplanes then. She was a very brave person.
