Maya Angelou wrote '' I wonder why the caged bird sings'' This Autobiographical story shows how a person can have something horrible happen to them and have the courage to rise above it. Mute for 5 years, She went onto write and read poetry and stories. Maya was also instrumental in the civil rights movement. She was asked to write a poem for president Clinton's Inaugiration. In this poem on the pulse of morning, she encouraged all Americans no matter what color, heritage or religion to come together as one and respect and appreciate each others differences
